G. H. Bass Penny Loafers “Weejun”
Original penny loafers.
The “Weejuns” by G. H. Bass & Co. from Maine/USA.
George Henry Bass founded his shoe company in 1876, and in 1936 launched the first penny loafer on the market. The company called them “Weejuns”, and the film stars from the 50s and 60s made them famous all over the world. Today, the men’s shoe classics are a favourite in women’s fashion and are the epitome of the American preppy style.
Traditionally handmade in moccasin style and durably welted.
The fine but strong calfskin leather encloses your feet perfectly. Sewn together by hand with characteristic stitching on the vamp, they adapt much better to the shape of the foot than machine-stitched shoes. Like all premium welted shoes with a genuine leather sole, you have to break in your “Weejuns”, but they will thank you for it with years of comfort.
Trendy shiny patent leather in fashionable colours.
Leather sole in wood look. Non-slip rubberised heel.
Upper, lining, insole and outer sole: Calfskin leather.
The story of the penny loafer
The penny loafer is characterised by the split strap design across the top of the shoe. The opening in the strap was often used by students of the Ivy League Colleges to hold a penny coin as a token of luck before important examinations.
