The manual coffee grinder with 18 fine adjustments. By Zassenhaus.

Many baristas and connoisseurs are again preparing coffee with a hand mill. We have tested some for you – this one by German mill specialist Zassenhaus is our favourite. The ceramic precision grinder has 18 (!) grinding levels (instead of often only 10). They are easy to set using the turning selector and it delivers really distinguishable results – unlike many competitors. Superfine powder for Turkish mocha, fine for espresso from a portafilter, medium fine for coffee machines, coarser for classic filter preparation and very coarse for a cafetière or Carlsbad pour-over method.
The bean container holds 70g; enough for more than a litre of coffee.
Usually the container only holds 50g which means having to refill it during the preparation. The extra-large opening makes filling easier and reduces the number of spilled coffee beans.
Simply click instead of cumbersome turning action.
Both the crank and the transparent grounds container can be quickly removed and put back on. This beautiful and sturdy item is solidly made of matted stainless steel and plastic.
  • To clean, occasionally dust with a soft brush
  • 9cm (3.5") in diameter, 25cm (9.8") H
  • Weighs 543g (19.2 oz)
In addition to our long-term guarantee, the manufacturer gives a 10-year guarantee on the grinder.

The right grind determines the taste of your coffee.

Fine powder has a larger surface area and the hot water can extract more flavours at once than from coarse coffee grounds. Therefore, the rule of thumb is: The shorter the brewing time, the finer the coffee powder. An espresso, for example, which comes under great pressure from the portafilter machine usually brews in only 25 seconds. The recommended brewing time for a cafetière is 4 minutes.
