Goethe Water Tumblers, Set of 2 or Set of 6
Glass water tumblers from the private property of J. W. Goethe. True to the original.
Hand-blown from historic glass from theThuringian Forest. From the Lauscha glassmaking village, established 1853.
To make these detailed replicas, Lauscha craftsmen revived the famous glass from the Thuringian Forest. This 400 year old glass making tradition uses beech wood moulds to hand blow the glass, after which it is carefully finished by hand.
Cannot be compared to cheap imitations made from coloured recycled glass.
The sandy soil in the Thuringian Forest contains a high proportion of iron oxide, which gives this type of glass its famous green shimmer. Another characteristic feature are the air bubbles locked in the glass resulting from the traditional mode of production. Today the bubbles are consciously incorporated as an unmistakable sign of the authenticity of the Thuringian Forest glass.
Strong enough for everyday use, adding a stylish touch to your table.
The slender glasses with flared, rounded rim are comfortable to hold and offer a good grip. The strong, thick body and thick base make them stable and durable. To prolong the use of your glasses only rinse them by hand. Size of glass: 9cm (3.5") high, diameter 8cm (3"), volume 130ml (4.6 fl oz).
