XL Wood Chip Tree
Old style craftsmanship from the Ore Mountains: The wood chip tree in rare XL size.
Shaved by hand from solid limewood. At a height of 90cm (35.4") (!) it’s a real stunner.
For over a hundred years wood chip trees have been part of the Christmas season in the Ore Mountains. The artistic carving was once developed by local toymakers. They had the skill, the strength, the experience and the patience to make the dainty, curly pine tree from a solid piece of limewood. Today, these hand-made wood chip trees are real treasures of Ore Mountains folk art: They are the epitome of Christmas – and sought by people all over the world.
Rarely available in this size.
At Seiffener Volkskunst eG, manufacturer of wood chip trees since 1958, the wood for the Christmas craft trees is ordered a year in advance every December. The demand is enormous but the amount available is limited. Therefore we are particularly pleased that we were able to reserve some for our customers. It’s a shame, however, that there are so few available.
Even experienced hands take up to one working day to craft one wood chip tree.
Only straight-grown lime trees are suitable. From this, a conical base is first turned, and then a foot of up to 4.5cm (1.8") thick. The base is then worked manually by hand with a chisel to create 240 smoothly curled shavings all around: Eight rows and a total of 30 tiers. By arranging and adjusting the curls, the tree gets a beautifully curved silhouette. The hardwearing solid wooden foot prevents the tree from tipping over.
An eye-catcher that enthrals every year. Perfect as an ensemble with Santa Claus’ boots, stylish reindeer or a wooden sledge, ...
