The best cashmere comes from Scotland. From Todd & Duncan. Top quality cashmere fibres come from Outer Mongolia and consist exclusively of the delicate, long-fibred undercoat of the rare white cashmere goat. Only in the icy region of the Himalayas does the cashmere goat develop such a fine and thick undercoat. The extremely fine (only 15-16 microns thick) fibres, up to 11⁄2"-11⁄4" long, are carefully combed out by hand. Only these cashmere fibres are good enough for the Scottish spinners Todd & Duncan, who use it to make their universally sought-after, fine yet robust cashmere yarn. This yarn is hard-wearing and does not pill so quickly. Washed in pure Scottish spring water. In Scotland, where some of the finest knitwear is found, the cashmere yarn is gently washed at 40°C – in pure Scottish spring water from the Highlands. Then it is rinsed for several hours in crystal-clear mountain water (which otherwise is only used to add to best malt whisky), and the fancy yarn is unadulterated and beautifully soft.
