They were already omnipresent last summer on the feet of US stars and celebrities, and there is hardly an important magazine that hasn’t yet reported on the successful charity shoe project. TOMS Shoes® great success is primarily due to the “One for OneTM” idea of company founder Blake Mycoskie: For each purchased pair he will donate another to needy children.
His success story began in Argentina, where shoes are the admission ticket to school for many children.
There it is prohibited to attend school with bare feet. But more importantly, shoes protect the children from injuries and illnesses such as podoconiosis, a disease that is especially prevalent in tropical countries and is transmitted through volcanic soil. Thanks to this project more than one million children in developing nations have received their first pair of shoes from him.
