Fisherman Knit Waistcoat
Traditional Irish knitting art – now in a cuddly soft version.
The original Fisherman’s waistcoat in fine merino wool.Traditional coarse knit combined with modern comfort.
Since you are unlikely to use your waistcoat to go fishing on the high seas, we can now make it out of fine merino wool – which makes it far more supple than the old version was. Unchanged are the striking design elements: The sailors used them as identification as well as for good luck. The 3-dimensional rhombus pattern represents a good catch, the plaits represent the ropes used to rescue sailors.
Made in the County of Donegal using traditional methods requiring a great deal of manual work.
The smooth back ensures that this waistcoat doesn’t bulk up even under a casually worn blazer. The button holes are carefully knitted instead of just being cut out. The sleeve openings and hem are a comfortable rib knit. Collar buttons up high. Colour: Wheat. Length for size 14: 61cm (24"). 100% virgin wool. Hand wash. Made in Ireland.
