Most braided belts are made from just one simple braided band. This belt by Paolo da Ponte is round braided by hand, like a flat tube, which makes it particularly hard-wearing and valuable. Narrow strips of saddle leather made from fine calfskin are braided in one piece and then pressed. There are no edges sticking out that might jam in your belt loops, and the belt will not wear out (unlike almost all simple braided belts).
