The stool was designed by Ruud Jan Kokke (*1965) for the Museum Boijmans van Beunigen in Rotterdam in 1990. Its purpose was to serve as a comfortable portable seat while observing exhibits. It didn’t take long before this featherweight received the highest accolades. For example, it was incorporated into the permanent MoMa (Museum of Modern Art) collection in New York. It soon became a visitor’s favourite as well in the Cooper Hewitt Museum in New York, in the Museum for Applied Art in Cologne and in the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.

Layers of strong birchwood are firmly glued and pressed while maintaining the beautiful natural grain of solid wood, but with the advantage that it is considerably lighter and can be shaped easily. The 31cm (12") wide oval seat has an opening which serves as a handle so you can easily place it anywhere you like.

The stool is wonderfully comfortable even when used for prolonged periods. Measures 37 x 31cm (14 2⁄3" x 12") (W X D). Seat height 44cm (17 2⁄3"). Stackable. Weighs approx. 2kg (4.4 lbs).
