Large pearls like these usually only develop in the depths of the South Pacific – and a comparable necklace would cost several thousand pounds. Conventional cultured saltwater pearls never reach this size. In addition they have a mussel nucleus which is only covered with a few layers of mother-of-pearl. In contrast the freshwater pearls used for this necklace are 100% mother-of-pearl. This makes them particularly valuable, radiant and beautiful with a deep irridescent lustre. Best of all, they won’t cost you a fortune.
The exceptional size is achieved by implanting a small freshwater pearl into the mussel.
The nacred pearl which developed around a tiny piece of tissue is implanted by hand with great care. Now the pearl oysters have to be carefully nourished for 4 to 5 years: Only then is it possible to harvest cultured pearls of such magnificent splendour (at least 11mm in diam.).

Minimal irregularities are a sign of natural growth. They give each of the approx. 35 pearls their distinctive character. The colour is a classic pearl white. Durably strung on steel threads, with a 925 sterling silver clasp which can be easily opened from both sides. Approx. 45cm (17 3⁄4") in length, weighs approx. 85g (3 oz).
