These wooden basins were traditional pieces found in the households of Chinese farmers as recently as the mid-twentieth century. Today antique originals like these are extremely rare collector’s items. Slight irregularities have been carefully preserved – as unique traces of the many years of use. A truly genuine antique.
Thanks to our excellent contacts, we were able to reserve 200 pieces from the Hunan region.
The extremely robust and resilient basins were handmade around 50 years ago from approx. 1.5 cm (2⁄3") thick elmwood. It has a handy solid wooden rim and 4 solid wooden legs to keep the tub from tipping over. The metal bands were bound by hand around the base and the sides of the tub to keep the precious liquid from seeping through. These rings continue to keep the wood watertight to this day.
Each tub has been carefully cleaned, restored and covered with a protective finish.
A fine transparent lacquer protects the beautiful grained wood and makes it easy to wipe clean. Ideal as a unique house bar or for newspapers, potted plants, fruit, needlework, etc.
Measures approx. 58 x 38 x 30cm (23" x 15" x 12") (W x H x D). Weighs approx. 3kg (6.6 lbs).
