Fully charged, the long-life nickel metal hydride batteries have capacity for up to 12 hours light. The lantern switches on automatically at twilight and then switches off when daylight comes.

The tightly fitting lid keeps off the rain. The white opaque glass is frost proof with a non-rusting stainless steel holder.
